ABOUT US

As a national industry body, Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA) represents the resurgent and organised face of the paper industry in India.

IPMA is the apex and national body which represents the interests and development of the paper industry in the country. IPMA membership comprises large integrated pulp & paper mills from the private and public sector with a product mix of all varieties of paper (writing, printing, packaging, paperboard, speciality and newsprint) located in all regions of the country using conventional fibre such as wood & bamboo and also unconventional raw materials like recycled fibre/wastepaper, agro residue, viz. bagasse and wheat straw.

IPMA came into being in 1998 with the merger of more than century-old Indian Paper Makers Association, Delhi, and the 63-year-old Indian Paper Mills Association, Calcutta (Kolkata).

IPMA is governed by the IPMA Committee, comprising of CEOs of India’s paper industry. Besides the IPMA Committee, four high profile Sub-Committees take care of specific activities and programmes of the Association.

IPMA activities include:

  • Interface with government, media, opinion leaders, NGOs and industry associations so as to present the perspective of the paper industry and thereby participate in the policymaking process;
  • Promote excellence in paper manufacturing through a jury monitored presentation of awards;
  • Network with international paper industry/forestry organisations for better visibility to Indian paper industry;
  • Coordinate with research institutes and arrange platforms for industry-research collaboration; and
  • Sponsor and participate in events, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, delegations and promotional activities related to the paper industry.

Recognition

IPMA President, Vice President, Secretary-General and other Committee members have been inducted by the Government of India in various government committees/bodies including:

  • Development Council for Pulp, Paper & Allied Industries
  • Research Advisory Council of Central Pulp & Paper Research Institute
  • Peer & Core Committee of Central Pollution Control Board
  • Expert Sectional Committees of the Bureau of Indian Standards
