Mr. A S Mehta, IPMA President, and Secretary-General met Dr. Alka Bhargava, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Government of India, on 3^rd October 2019 at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, on issues relating to agroforestry. The Additional Secretary informed that operational guidelines had been issued in 2016 under Sub-Mission on Agroforestry (SMAF), under National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA). Under the agroforestry scheme (financed jointly by the Central Government and the concerned State Government in 60:40 ratio), farmers are eligible to get a subsidy of INR 35 per tree grew (INR 35 to be contributed by the farmer). The Additional Secretary sought the help of Paper Mills in spreading awareness amongst farmers engaged in agroforestry and help them get registered under the scheme.
